Temple of Tat Chomsi


In the center of the ancient capital of Laos , the city of Luang Prabang , is one of the many masterpieces of Buddhist architecture - the temple of Tat Chomsey. It is located on the very top of the hill Phu Si , which in Russian means "holy hill".

What is interesting about the temple of Tat Chomsey?

From the banks of the Mekong River to the temple complex leads a narrow stone staircase, in which there are 328 steps. The architectural ensemble of the temple is rated as one of the most important shrines of Laos. This religious complex includes several religious buildings. The main temple is crowned with golden spiers. They are visible from all parts of the city, so Tat Chomsey is an excellent guide.

Near the main building there is a small pagoda in which the footprint of the Buddha is kept. In the grotto, located nearby, there are many different cult sculptures, beside which lie flowers and there are dishes for offerings. Near the temple grows a very old champ tree, similar to the one under which, according to legend, the Buddha gained his enlightenment. And to the sacred statue, located under the shadow of a tree, people come with requests for help.

The temple of Tat Chomsi was erected in 1804, and in 1994 it was reconstructed. In 1995, a large bell was installed in the church.

If you flew to Luang Prabang by plane, then from the airport to the temple of Tat Chomsey can be reached by taxi for about $ 6. You can order a car in the terminal building.
