National Art Gallery


Not far from the beautiful Lake Titivangsa, in Kuala Lumpur , is the National Art Gallery. This is the place where a huge collection of modern art samples of Malay artists, sculptors, photographers is collected.

A bit of history

The attraction was founded on the initiative of the first Prime Minister of Malaysia in 1958. Initially, the gallery not only exhibited local masters, but also classes to teach children of painting. Later, the activities of the gallery and its orientation changed somewhat.

Appearance and interior decoration

The building of the National Art Gallery harmoniously combines different architectural styles with the Malaysian architecture. For more color, its facade is decorated with a multicolored glass of unusual shape, and the roof is lined with metal sheets. At the main entrance to the gallery there is a small fountain. The paths leading to the building are painted with bright graffiti drawings. Inside, visitors will immerse themselves in a cozy atmosphere, which is created by soft lighting and almost home interior.

The National Art Gallery occupies three floors. The permanent collection includes more than 3 thousand works, which are thematically distributed as follows:

Particularly noteworthy are the ceramic products of the early 20th century, an amusing collection of toilets collected all over the country and even beyond.

Gallery in our days

Today the National Art Gallery is a place of interesting exhibitions and educational programs. In addition to the halls with works of art, the building has exhibition facilities, workshops, a small cafe, a spacious auditorium.

How to get there?

You can reach the place by bus №В114, which is to the stop "Simpang Tasik Titiwangsa", located 15 minutes walk. You can also reach the gallery by car, following the Jalan Tun Razak motorway. To find the National Art Gallery you will be helped by road signs.
