Closet from plasterboard with own hands

The standard layout of the apartment does not always suit our hosts, and so often we have to redevelop . The niches from plasterboard for a cabinet, under the TV, niches-curbstones became popular. In practice, it has been proved that from it not only suspended ceilings or ideally even walls are obtained, but also home furniture.

How to make a cabinet made of drywall?

  1. First you need to arm yourself with a pencil and paper to draw a drawing of the future cabinet. Only knowing the dimensions, we can approximately calculate the amount of building material and fittings.
  2. Plasterboard sheets usually have a standard rectangular shape up to 6 meters long and 1.5 meters wide. The thickness of the material can be different - from 9 to 26 mm.
  3. For the frame we need metal profiles. Sometimes wooden rails are used for this purpose, but they must be of high quality and dry. It should be borne in mind that the tree with time has the property of deforming, especially in a humid room. With metal such "surprises" usually do not arise.
  4. Details of the frame will be fastened with pendants, screws, dowels.
  5. To build a cabinet from gypsum board it is absolutely not necessary to buy an expensive tool. We will need: level, screwdriver, impact drill, metal scissors, pliers, hammer, plumb, set of spatulas, roller, knife, grater, roulette.
  6. When all the material is ready to begin work. First we start to make a frame. We attach to the walls vertical riser profiles, connecting them with horizontal elements. They will provide us with additional structural rigidity.
  7. The frame of the lower part is also made of metal profiles.
  8. In the built-in closet from gypsum cardboard there will be shelves or drawers. In these places it is desirable to strengthen the structure with transverse profiles, because here we will have an increased load.
  9. The bottom and shelves of the cabinet can be made from a wood plate or other reliable material.
  10. When the frame is completely finished with plasterboard. Cutting sheets is pretty easy. You can do this with a simple sharp knife. First we conduct them along the planned line and make an incision.
  11. Under the edge we put the rail or level and with a light blow of the hand we knock on top. The required workpiece can easily be broken off.
  12. But the cut must be neat and not immediately tear off. To do this, turn the sheet over to the other side and then with a knife we separate the workpiece completely.
  13. In places where you need to make complex cutouts, you need to do a little differently. Performing the first incision, we hold the knife a bit deeper.
  14. We lay the rail from the bottom at an angle and with our hands carefully break off the workpiece.
  15. We fasten plasterboard to our frame with the help of screws. It is necessary that their heads are slightly sunk and not stick out.
  16. When all the walls are sheathed, you can start finishing work.
  17. Joints and all attachment points are sealed with putty, using reinforcing tape. After drying, the surface is cleaned.
  18. We hope that you have understood how to assemble a cabinet made of drywall. In the end, you can cover our furniture with wallpapers, lay out with tiles or paint. It depends only on the desire of the owner.

Shelves and cabinets from plasterboard have many advantages. Materials and components have a low cost, and working with them does not require special skills. In addition, this material is absolutely safe for our health, which allows you to install such furniture in the bedroom, the nursery or any other room.
