Composition and action of Corvalolum

The preparation includes phenobarbital, peppermint oil, alpha-bromizovaleric acid ethyl ester. These are the main active substances that are contained in the corvalale, regardless of the form of release.

Phenobarbital helps to reduce excitation of the central nervous system, is a sedative and enhances the sedative effect of other components, has an easy hypnotic effect. Peppermint oil has a reflex antispasmodic and vasodilating effect, has a slight choleretic and antiseptic effect. The alpha-bromizovaleric acid ester also has a sedative and spasmolytic effect (primarily on smooth muscle).

Corvalol in droplets, which is used much more often, is made on the basis of a water-alcohol solution. It should be noted that alcohol increases the effect of the main components of the drug.

In tablets, potato starch, magnesium stearate, beta-cyclodextrin, lactose and microcrystalline cellulose are used as auxiliary substances.

Corvalol - route of administration and dose

The drug is taken orally, before meals, 15-30 drops, diluting them in a small (up to 50 ml) amount of water, up to three times a day. In some cases (with tachycardia or vascular spasms) a one-time dose increase up to 50 drops is possible.

The drug in tablets is prescribed for 1-2 tablets, up to three times a day. The maximum allowable daily dose is 6 tablets.

The duration of the application of Corvalol is established by the physician individually. Possible as a one-time device for the appearance of symptoms, and admission courses.

Side effects of Corvalol

As a rule, the drug is well tolerated, but there may be drowsiness, light dizziness, reduced concentration of attention.

With prolonged use of large doses of corvalol, the development of drug dependence and bromine poisoning is possible. As a result, there are constant drowsiness, apathy, impaired coordination, development of conjunctivitis and diathesis.
