This inhaler is named after its inventor, Oscar Mahold, who developed its design in the middle of the twentieth century. The device is compact and looks like a smoking pipe made of glass. It consists of an inlet tube with a funnel-shaped end (which is filled with liquid and medicinal mixtures), a container for the inhalation mixture and an exit tube through which inhalation is inhaled, equipped with hemispherical diffusers (which prevent large drops of liquid from entering the respiratory organs). In addition, the kit usually includes an additional nozzle, for inhalation through the nose.
To date, a special medical glass, processed with silver, is used to make Mahold inhalers.

Before using the inhaler, it needs to be disinfected. For this, the tube needs to be boiled for several minutes. If there was essential oil left in the tube, it is best to use 96% alcohol for washing, since it can not be removed with water.
If several people use the inhaler, washing before each use is mandatory. If the inhaler uses only one person and there is essential oil left in its tube, the ends of the tube can simply be closed with special stoppers and use this oil in the following procedure.
The Maholda inhaler is most often used for inhalations with essential oils. To do this, 2 ml of water are poured into the inhaler through the end of the funnel and then 1 to 4 drops of essential oil are added. Alcohol tinctures are used less often, but in their case only the medicinal solution is poured into the inhaler, without the addition of water.
How to use an inhaler Maholda?
Applied the device as follows:
- To conduct inhalation through the mouth, the mouthpiece should be wrapped around the lips and inhaled. Exhale through the nose. When you exhale through the inhaler, the therapeutic mixture is ejected from the device to the outside.
- For inhalation through the nose on the mouthpiece with a silicone adapter is attached a special nozzle. In this case, inhale through the nose, and exhale through the mouth.
The first 5-6 breaths with inhalation should be shallow, otherwise you can cough. The duration of inhalation is 5-7 minutes.
For more effective evaporation of medicinal substances, inhalation can be made hot. To do this, the lower end of the tube is immersed in a container with water, the temperature of which is 50-60 ° C. Duration of hot inhalation should not exceed 5 minutes.
On average, it is recommended to perform procedures with a break of 3-4 hours. In severe cases, the time between inhalations can be reduced to 1-2 hours, but for a period of not more than 2 days.
After the procedure for an hour, it is not recommended to drink and eat, and also to undergo temperature changes (carry out water procedures, go out, etc.).

In addition, it should be remembered that allergic reaction to the essential oils is possible, therefore for each oil, if you have not used it before, it is necessary to check before the procedure.
