Discomfort in the abdomen is a problem that everyone has come across once in a lifetime. The term "discomfort" is usually understood as any unpleasant sensations: pain, a feeling of heaviness in the stomach, bloating and other symptoms that can be either permanent or short-term. We will consider the most common reasons for the occurrence of such a state.
The main causes of discomfort in the abdomen
These include:
- binge eating;
- sudden changes in diet or stiff diets;
- food poisoning;
- stress conditions, leading to the development of nerve dispersion;
- irritable bowel syndrome;
- gastritis and stomach ulcer (cause prolonged or permanent discomfort in the abdomen);
- liver disease;
- inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis);
- diseases of the gallbladder;
- intestinal infections;
- dysbacteriosis (most often caused by taking antibiotics);
- Helminthiasis.
This list is far from complete. Discomfort in the abdomen, to some extent, accompanies any digestive disorder and gastrointestinal disease, so its treatment is impossible without a clear definition of the causes that provoked this condition.
Discomfort in the abdomen after eating
The constant occurrence of discomfort in the abdomen, approximately 1.5-2 hours after ingestion, usually indicates a violation of the acidity of the gastric juice and the development of gastritis. In addition to feelings of discomfort and heaviness in the stomach, there may be pulling pains, heartburn, belching with an unpleasant odor, bloating and increased flatulence, stomach stiffness on an empty stomach, which after eating for a while passes.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a fairly common functional disorder that is not associated with certain organic causes. CKD is one of the disorders most commonly associated with the definition of "discomfort in the abdomen," since it has unpleasant sensations in the abdomen (but not reaching pain), bloating (which decreases after defecation), severe disorders of the stool (constipation or diarrhea) .
CKD can be confused with dysbacteriosis or seasonal stomach disorders (eating large amounts of fruit, lung infections), but with dysbacteriosis the cause is established in the analysis of microflora, and other disorders are fast enough. About diagnosis of CKD is said if digestive disorders are observed for 12 weeks or more.
Abdominal discomfort and temperature
A rise in body temperature against a background of unpleasant sensations in the stomach or intestine usually indicates a viral or bacterial infection, and in addition is one of the symptoms of food poisoning:
- Food poisoning. In this case, discomfort in the abdomen is accompanied by nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and symptoms of intoxication (weakness, deterioration of well-being, etc.).
- Gastrointestinal influenza. Viral disease, accompanied by severe pain in the abdomen and acute diarrhea, with a yellow stool and a sharp, extremely unpleasant sour smell. From external manifestations, there is an increase in body temperature, reddening of the throat and eye proteins, general weakness.
Treatment is symptomatic. - Bacterial infections. Sufficiently diverse, always accompanied by not only discomfort in the abdomen, but also a disorder of the stool, an increase in temperature, often nausea and increased gas production. Treatment is done with antibiotics.
Another reason that can sometimes provoke nausea and discomfort in the abdomen, accompanied by fever and dizziness, is a heat stroke .
