Eduardo Avaroa Park was founded in 1973 in the province of Sur Lipes, which belongs to the department of Potosi . Located in the southwestern part of Bolivia, this reserve is by far one of the most visited in the country. On the area of ​​715 hectares are located extinct volcanoes and geysers, colorful lakes and inaccessible mountains, which are visited annually by tens of thousands of tourists from all over the world.

The name given to the park is not accidental: it proudly bears the name of Colonel Eduardo Avaroa Hidalgo - one of the main characters of the Second Pacific War of 1879-1883.

As for the climate, then, like in many highlands of Bolivia, the dry season here falls on the period from May to August. It is in these months that the lowest temperatures are observed, while the average annual air temperature is 3 ° C.

Geography of Eduardo Avaroa National Park

The main attractions of Avaroa Park, of course, are mountains and lakes. List all the natural objects of the reserve is rather difficult, the greatest interest among tourists is caused by the volcanoes Putana (5890 m) and Likankabur (5920 m). Among the water bodies is the mineral lake Laguna Verde , famous for its emerald green color of water, and Lake Laguna-Blanca (the "white lake") near it, as well as the world-famous Lake Laguna Colorado , which has become a haven for 40 species of birds.

Another popular place for travelers is the Syloli desert and the small stone formation of the Arbol de Piedra located on its territory. This is one of the most interesting and unusual sights of the Eduardo Avaroa National Park, which in a sense became its symbol. Flora and fauna

Great value is the amazing animal and plant world of the park. The reserve is home to more than 10 different species of reptiles, amphibians and fish. In addition, the park of Eduardo Avaroa is inhabited by about 80 species of birds, including pink flamingos, ducks, falcons, mountain-steppe tinam and Andean geese. On the territory of the reserve also live mammals: pumas, Andes foxes, alpacas, vicuñas and many others. other

Flora in this region is represented by several hundred species of trees and tropical alpine herbs. An important role in the life of the national park is played by a yaret: the leaves of this plant are covered with wax, which allows local aborigines to use it as fuel for heating and cooking.
