Sluggish inflammation in the root canals and ligaments of the tooth is called chronic periodontitis. Depending on the nature of the degeneration of nearby tissues, this disease is of 3 types - granulating, fibrous and granulomatous. Exacerbation of chronic periodontitis occurs almost identically for all forms of pathology, according to clinical manifestations, the recurrence period resembles an acute inflammatory process.
Symptoms of chronic periodontitis in the acute stage
At the early stages of inflammation of the root canals, there are almost no obvious signs of the disease. Occasionally the affected area reminds of itself with a mild pain syndrome, mainly during the reception of solid food, which must be chewed.
The severe exacerbation of chronic granulomatous and fibrous periodontitis, as well as the granulating form of pathology, proceeds completely identically. At this stage, dentist patients complain of the following symptoms:
- pronounced puffiness of adjacent tissues and gums;
- intense pain when biting on the causal tooth;
- swelling of the soft tissues of the face in the area of the inflamed area;
- tangible mobility of the tooth in the lingual-buccal direction;
- redness of the gums near the affected area;
- tenderness of the tissues during palpation and pressure;
- fistula (through stroke) on the gum near the roots of the inflamed tooth.
During the survey, it is usually found that previously there were periodic pains that could be easily eliminated by taking analgesics and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications.
Treatment of chronic periodontitis in the acute stage
Conservative therapy of pathology is conducted identically to the treatment of acute periodontitis:
- root canal opening;
- maintenance of outflow of exudate;
- drainage of inflamed cavities;
- antiseptic treatment of root canals;
- the introduction of anesthetics;
- antibacterial therapy;
- fluctuation;
- impact of UHF;
- electrophoresis.
After relieving the exacerbation of the affected tooth is usually performed.
Unfortunately, chronic periodontitis often leads to irreversible changes in soft and bony tissues, their severe destruction. This disease is the most common cause of tooth extraction with roots. Therefore, it is often necessary to use surgical methods of treatment:
- replantation;
- resection of the apex of the root ;
- transplantation;
- amputation of the root of the tooth;
- hemisection.
