Fashion of the 19th century

The beginning of the last century marked a new era in the world fashion. The society is becoming more dynamic, and the fashion of the 19th century includes more democratic dresses and costumes. One of the trendsetters of fashion is still France. At this time, she is still experiencing the consequences of the Great Revolution, which has turned over, including all the ideas about fashionable clothes. There is a sharp rejection of wigs and complex hairstyles, corsets and crinolines, a myriad of powder. In the women's fashion of the 19th century, empire-style dresses are becoming popular - deeply decolored, with a very high waistline (almost under the breast) and a short sleeve "flashlight". A long skirt with flowing pleats went into a train. The fabric was thin and airy. But the climate of some European countries makes their own adjustments also in Europe of the 19th century, fashion dresses in Empire style with a long sleeves appear, the neckline diminishes. Used more dense and heavy fabrics - velvet, silk. Weekend toilets are richly decorated with embroidery in Greek or Egyptian style.

The favorite of fashion at the beginning of the 19th century was a turban with an exotic feather feather and sandals of the Greek type richly decorated with precious stones. Women's fashion early 19 th century offered a huge selection of shawls and stoles. They perfectly complemented the almost weightless outfits of women of fashion, and often served as the only protection from the weather.

In the first half of the 19th century, fashion was so fleeting that it changed, almost daily. This is especially noticeable in the men's fashion: today, for example, in the fashion of the collar with the ends curved to the cheeks, and tomorrow the collars on the high rack and the scarf-tie are already popular.

Fashion of the mid-19th century

By the middle of the 19th century, fashion made a sharp turn toward the last century and the second Rococo period was coming. Returns are crinolines and corsets. Casual dresses have a long, dilated sleeve and a closed bodice. In ballroom dresses, or very lavish in the tubular sleeve or absent at all. Dresses for the ball are deeply decollete. Especially popular are lace and embroidery, which are now manufactured in factories.

By the beginning of the 80s, fashion was entering the epoch of positivism. The main feature of this direction was a deliberate display of well-being and wealth. Women's dresses during this period are overloaded with all sorts of details and decorations. Often they are sewn from fabrics of different textures and colors. By the end of the 19th century, a fashion bust was included in the women's fashion. The dress is also changing. It becomes uncut at the waist, tightly embraces the figure to the middle of the thigh. At the back of the dresses, the dresses are gathered in a magnificent drapery, which the backpacker supported - a cushion of cotton wool or horsehair. Sometimes the dimensions of the bustle were simply enormous, and the woman looked like a goose. In the last decade, a simple or lacy lower skirt comes to replace the bustle. The female image ceases to be the reason for the ridicule of cartoonists, although the corset is still preserved in the women's wardrobe. An indispensable attribute of the female costume was gloves, a small umbrella, a boa made of fur or feathers.
