Hernia in newborns

Almost every person who does not have medical education has heard such a medical term as a "hernia" at least once in his life. This pathology has many varieties. Its essence lies in the fact that with the development of such a violation, protrusion or perforation of an organ or part of it, adjacent to it, is observed. So, very often, the formation of a hernia is observed in toddlers, in particular newborns. In most cases, when a hernia appears in a newborn, parents do not know what to do.

Features of umbilical hernia in infants

If we talk about small children, the umbilical hernia is the most common type of this pathology in the newborn. It is formed mainly during the first month of life of the crumbs. Easily defined visually and characterized by the formation of protrusion in the navel. Its size can be different. It all depends on the degree of development of the muscles around the navel.

The main cause of its appearance is the low tone of the muscles of the anterior abdominal wall, which is observed in all newborns. Even before contacting the doctor, the mother can determine for herself the presence of a hernia in her newborn baby. To do this, it is enough to lightly press the bulging patch in the region of the umbilical ring, and it will temporarily go back to the abdominal cavity. Back protrusion of the navel is observed at the moment when the baby begins to push or cry. In severe cases, with a large hernia, protrusions of the individual intestinal loops through the umbilical ring may be observed. Such situations require urgent medical attention, because with complication of pathology, so-called infringements of a hernia may occur. Due to the fact that the umbilical hernia itself in newborns has practically no symptoms, i.e. does not give the baby any discomfort and pain, parents often do not notice the presence of a small protrusion in the navel, which does not allow to diagnose the disease at an early stage.

What is terrible for a spinal hernia for babies?

Cerebrospinal hernia that occurs in newborns is a complex pathology, which is the result of an abnormal fetal development. It is characterized by the neurasthenia of the neural tube, which occurs even at the stage of intrauterine development of the fetus. As a result, the formation of the spinal cord is disturbed. Due to the fact that the arcs of the vertebrae are not tightly joined, the spinal cord extends beyond the canal in which it is located. A hernial sac is formed. The solution of this problem is carried out only surgically.

Features of inguinal hernia in children

The emergence of such a pathology, as inguinal hernia, is not uncommon in a newborn child. It manifests itself in the penetration of the intestinal loops into the scrotum. In this case, parents will not be able to help the child on their own. Therefore, it is necessary to contact doctors as soon as possible.

What is a "diaphragmatic hernia"?

Diaphragmatic hernia is a rather rare pathology, which is observed only in 1 out of 5,000 babies born. It is characterized by an irregular development of the diaphragm, as a result of which an aperture is formed in it. It is through him that the organs that normally are in the abdominal cavity can penetrate into the chest cavity. In this case, the lungs are compressed. As a result, the child experiences breathing problems.

The causes of the development of diaphragmatic hernia in newborns are few. The most important of them are weakness and insufficient degree of elasticity of connective tissue fibers of the diaphragm.

Treatment of this pathology can be carried out even at the stage of pregnancy. If the disease is detected with a planned ultrasound of a pregnant woman, then the so-called method of percutaneous fetoscopy is used for treatment. He is in charge of the fetal balloon trachea, which expands the lungs, thereby stimulating their development.
