A huge number of disputes and disagreements - it is exactly such a reaction among moms that causes such a simple, but from this no less important subject, as a dummy. Some are upset that the child does not suck a pacifier, while others are in favor of never introducing the baby to her at all. Who is right? And how to accustom the baby to a dummy, if there is an urgent need for this? We will try to answer all questions and understand the situation.
Does a baby need a baby's dummy?
Opponents of pacifiers today are met at every step. Even in the hospital, young mothers who ask the question whether a baby can have a baby dummy, face the threats of pediatricians who insist that giving the baby a nipple is strictly forbidden. However, there are situations in which it is simply impossible to dispense with this beautiful invention of humanity. For example:
- long fees for a walk;
- waiting for their turn in the hospital and other institutions;
- shopping, that for moms is almost inevitable;
- fitting new clothes to the baby;
- any travel and travel.
In addition, often the nipple is a real salvation during the games in the sandbox, when the child continually raises the "kaku" from the ground. And that's not to mention such a major occupation of a one-year-old as sucking. Up to one and a half years, children tirelessly pull in their mouths all that is bad lying, starting with toys and ending with their own handles. As practice has shown, it is much easier to wean a child from a pacifier than from sucking one's own finger. If you still doubt whether to give a baby a pacifier, when it is necessary, then let the main argument for you is that it is hygienic, saves during frequent nocturnal awakenings of the baby, and also stimulates the activity of the intestines and saves from gas formation.
How to teach a baby to a dummy?
Having dealt with the problem of the importance of the nipples, we turn to the second problem. It consists in the fact that the child does not take a pacifier. This can happen for several reasons:
- The material from which it is made is not suitable for the baby;
- it is too small or too great for a child;
- baby does not fit the shape of a dummy.
Choosing a pacifier for a child, very carefully study the information on the package. There are three basic sizes of pacifiers: from 0, from 3 and from 6 months. The material used is of two types: silicone and latex. The shape of the nipple is also different and is created in connection with different purposes. In addition, there are other subtleties - thinking about how to teach a newborn to a pacifier, do not forget about the weight with which he was born. "Bogatyri" immediately spit out the nipple of the first size, tk. she will be small to them. But there are those who on the contrary like the size of more. In other words, be prepared for the fact that you have to try about a dozen nipples before you find one that your chad likes.
Suppose that you finally made your choice. It remains to decide when to give a baby a pacifier and how to handle it properly, so that the baby loves it. For this we advise you to listen to the following tips:
- before the first use and before each use boil the pacifier 2-3 minutes;
- replace dummies every 4-6 weeks of use;
- Do not use ribbons and rubber bands around your neck to wear a pacifier. Better get a special case;
- in no case do not dip the nipple into the sweet (syrup, sugar, honey) so that it does not spit it out. This can lead to a child's diathesis, caries, and also dependence on taste;
- The same applies to licking the nipples before giving it to the baby. Remember that your saliva contains a huge amount of bacteria that are dangerous to the baby;
- to accustom the child to a pacifier it is possible giving it right after feeding. If you lubricate it with your milk, the baby will not notice the substitution and fall asleep with the pacifier. Remember that during sleep, the pacifier is best removed from the mouth. Or you can use special night nipples;
- Do not abuse your pacifiers. Give them only as a last resort, when it is really necessary to satisfy the sucking reflex of the baby;
- keep a few dummies in the house. The optimal number is about five. All of them should be sterilized and stored in special cases.
To teach a baby to a pacifier is not an easy task. But if, despite your efforts, for some reason the child flatly refuses to take it - rejoice. You do not have to wean the grown up child from your beloved nipple, which has become native. And this, believe me, the task is more complicated than to pick up the dummy itself.
