Hugh Jackman gave an interview on the premiere of the musical "The Greatest Showman"

Actor Hugh Jackman does not cease to amaze his fans with a change of roles. On the eve of New Year's Eve, the musical "The Greatest Showman" appeared on the screens, in which ex-Wolverine dances and sings! Jackman got the role of the first circus impresario in the history of show business of Phineas Barnum. About why the famous actor agreed to change the superhero costume for the garment of a circus, he told in an interview with Cosmopolitan.

Who is Phineas Taylor Barnum? This is an American who was able to create the first of its kind circus show. In his troupe there were people who differed in their external physiological characteristics: Siamese twins, a woman with a beard and a dwarf. In the nineteenth century, such a spectacle left no one indifferent. The Barnum Show has won many fans both in the US and abroad.

Here's what the 49-year-old Australian actor said about his relationship with his character:

"I was always sure that musicals turn out to be ideal when they are about fictional, fantastic or legendary heroes. It's easier to show such characters while dancing. You look at them with interest, and the musical genre allows them to be accepted 100%. In this respect, Phineas Barnum is simply perfect. For his time he was an extremely unconventional person, he risked and was not afraid to be a pioneer. While making a film about him, we assumed certain risks, acted out of the box. "

Note that the director of the musical and the performer of the main role have already met on the set of several commercial projects. A full-length film is a debut for director Michael Gracie, as before, for two decades he shot commercials. According to Jackman, the director's enthusiasm made him agree to such an unusual project:

"Michael Gracie himself is similar to Barnum. You may not believe it, but for 23 years (until the La Landa release) in Hollywood did not make original musicals at all, as these projects were risky, unprofitable. So, Gracie prepared over 1000 sketches of the future brainchild to tell us about his idea at the studio! ".

The dance in his blood

Despite the impressive age, Hugh Jackman literally flies in the frame. Looking at his verified movements it is simply impossible to believe that this gentleman is 49 years old!

Jackman admitted that he was very sympathetic to his character and that's why:

"Our strength is that we are all completely different, I see in this idea the main message of the musical. If we all want to become the same, it will not lead to anything good - one boring. I think it's better to try to understand each other, to hear than to live life away from everyone, condemning those who do not look like you. "
