Iskanvaya


In the northwestern part of Bolivia , 325 km from La Paz , are the ruins of the ancient city of Iskanvaya. By its size, it surpassed all known Machu Picchu, but to our time has been preserved in a much worse state.

Features of the ruins of Iskanwai

According to research, the city of Iskanwaya existed before Columbus arrived in South America. At that time the people of the Pukin lived here, which belonged to the mollo culture. The latter is considered the forerunner of the Incan culture.

Iskanvaya was built on two massive platforms with an area of ​​0.6 square meters. km. Currently there is not one more or less surviving building, only the walls. In good condition, the system that supplied the city with running water was preserved. The streets of Iskanwai are sent from west to east.

More than a hundred large structures, each consisting of approximately 13 rooms, have been identified by UN scientists. The houses of this ancient city were rectangular and clustered around a small patio (veranda). According to research conducted by the UN archaeologist Alvaro Fernholtz Hemion, 2-3 thousand people could live in the territory of Iskanwai.

Walking along the ruins of Iskanvaya, you can find many objects of everyday life of the people of the pukin. But still the main collection of items found in this area is kept in a museum in the village of Okapata. You will certainly see it on the road to the ruins. The age of the ceramic products of Iskanwai is several hundred years old. Some of the items found are stored in the Napprstec museum in Prague.

How to get to Iskanway?

Ruins of Iskanwaya are located in the mountains at an altitude of 1700 m at sea level, therefore you can only get to them on foot, accompanied by a guide. The nearest town is La Paz . From Russia and the CIS countries you can get to this city with two transplants - in Europe and one of the largest cities in Latin America. 10 km from the city is located an international airport, which accepts flights of airlines Iberia, Air France, Lufthansa and Alitalia. You should prepare for the fact that on the way you will spend about 30 hours.
