A certain Stephen Cummings, who lives in Florida, intends to collect from one of the most successful filmmakers in the history of cinema, 62-year-old James Cameron, who shot Avatar, Terminator and Titanic, "modest" $ 300 million.
Repetition of history
Stephen Cummings, sailing, sued James Cameron, arguing that the image of the protagonist of the film "Titanic", authored by the director, who collected eleven "Oscars", was written off from his ancestor.
The man claims that Cameron, being in the district of Brevard, accidentally overheard the story of his family, which he shared with his friends in 1988. The relative of Mr. Cummings died as a result of the crash of the ill-fated "Titanic", and his beloved ancestor miraculously managed to survive.
Stephen does not believe in coincidence and believes that it was his story that inspired James to create a picture of disaster, and the image of Jack Dawson, artistically embodied in the screen of Leonardo DiCaprio, was copied from his relative.
Author fees
Since at a budget of 200 million dollars the film was able to collect in the film distribution more than 2.5 billion, still being one of the highest grossing films, Cummings claims a copyright profit of one percent of fees. Rounding out the figure in his favor, he wants to get $ 300 million.
Cameron and his representative have not commented on the current situation.

It is noteworthy that this is not the first episode, when James Cameron is accused of plagiarism. So, in 2011, a former director's employee said that he illegally appropriated his idea of a fantastic epic.
