Kitchen plinth

The installation of skirting boards for kitchen sets is an important part of its installation, because without them, water will easily flow into the gap between the wall and the table tops, which can be detrimental to the appearance of furniture, and is a favorable environment for the development of bacteria, which in the kitchen can not be allowed. Finally, installing a kitchen wall skirting will give the headset a complete and neat appearance.

Types of kitchen skirting boards

There are two main types of kitchen skirting for table tops : aluminum and plastic. Each of them has its own advantages.

Aluminum kitchen baseboard is durable and safe. It is scratch resistant, it is almost impossible to leave a chip. In addition, it is not afraid of high temperatures and does not release hazardous substances when heated. Of course, aluminum kitchen skirting boards can not boast the same variety of colors as plastic ones, but their silver color is quite versatile and can be combined with many stylistic solutions and interiors.

Plastic kitchen skirting boards are distinguished by a wide range of colors (now white kitchen skirting boards are very popular), so you can choose a model that exactly matches the tone to the kitchen furniture (if the skirting boards are not included in the furniture kit) or combined with the main color of the decoration. In addition, this type of plinth is easy to assemble and can easily be replaced with wear.

In case you want to refine your kitchen for a long time, do not buy very cheap wall-mounted kitchen plinths. Usually they consist of a base and an insert from a rather low-quality plastic that, after mounting, swells swiftly from moisture and loses the original presentable appearance.

Installing kitchen skirting

Depending on your needs, you can choose one of two traditional ways of installing a furniture kitchen skirting: on glue or with self-tapping screws.

The first method is suitable for those who make repairs with the expectation of long years of using the kitchen in its original form, since replacing the glued plinths is a long and laborious task. Bonding is also used when using the screws can spoil the appearance of the product (for example, if the plinth is made of porous or brittle plastic).

Self-tapping is more susceptible to changes, if during the time you want to adjust the appearance of the kitchen, for example, change the color of the walls or facades of the kitchen set. Then simply unscrew the decorative detail from the baseboard and screw the new one in the desired color.
