Sturshenskoe monster

In addition to fishing, attract travelers to the lake and stories about the unusual creature living here. An ancient legend says that in Lake Storschen inhabits an unprecedented monster, nicknamed Birger: a sea reptile or a snake with a dog's head and fins on its back. The history of "communication" of people with him is as follows:

  1. In 1635 the Swedish priest wrote down a story about two trolls that boiled water on a fire near the lake. They did not take off the boiling water for a long time, and at one point a monster with a snake body jumped out of the kettle and jumped into the lake. Living in the water, the monster has grown to huge proportions.
  2. Many years in a row people tried to catch a monster, for this they even established a giant trap, but their efforts did not lead to anything. However, many still believe in its existence. Confirmation of this is believed to be standing on the bank of Sturshen stone with runic letters. It depicts a serpent, around which are inscribed the Old Norse symbols. The meaning of these inscriptions is still unsolved. Many believe that the stone - it's a kind of amulet, thanks to which the Sturshen monster can not go ashore. As soon as the stone has been moved to another place, the spell will dissipate, and the monster will come out of the water and deliver a lot of trouble to the people living here.
  3. In the summer of 2008, the camera crew working on the lake reported that their infrared cameras recorded the presence of an endothermic (heat-absorbing) object under the water.

On the shore of Lake Sturshen it reminds everyone of the famous monster. In the picturesque parks of Ostersund there are sculptures, in souvenir shops a huge selection of various memorable statuettes.
