Drottninggatan

There are places that have long become the calling card of a particular city or country. Intentionally ignore them is impossible, and there is no special desire, as a rule. The capital of Sweden can not be called an exception in this respect. And although in Stockholm a huge number of interesting sights , in the first acquaintance with the city of tourists inevitably draws to it - the street Drottinginggatan.

The face of the city

Drottingeringatan Street, also known as Queen Street, is the central tourist destination in Stockholm. Just like on arrival in Odessa guests first try to visit the legendary Deribasovskaya, and in the capital of Sweden travelers hurry to this pedestrian section of the road in the center.

Drottininggatan on the map of Stockholm connects two districts - Gamla Stan and Vasastaden. From all sides, tourists are surrounded by bright showcases of expensive boutiques and cozy cafes. The Queen Street starts in the Norrmalm area, near the Rixbrun bridge, and ends with the picturesque Observatorioelanden park, where the Stockholm Observatory and the Historical Museum are located .

Drottininggatan was laid back in the XVII century. Among the buildings and organizations located here, there are real old-timers. For example, in the house number 59 works pharmacy "Owl", the opening of which falls on 1761. Funny as the inscriptions on the asphalt near the house number 85. In fact, these are quotations from the works of the Swedish writer Johan August Strindberg, who once lived at this address. Now there is a museum open in his honor.

Caution is not superfluous

The Queen Street is perhaps the most populous in Stockholm. Unfortunately, twice already it has become the object of close attention of terrorists. In 2010, there were two explosions, and in 2017 a truck with an attacker at the wheel drove into a crowd of pedestrians. In the history of modern Sweden, this is the first terrorist attack, accompanied by human deaths. That is why tourists not only in Sweden, but also in the whole of Europe are encouraged to be collected and attentive, especially in places of large crowds.
