History of the Manor of Betnava
For the first time the estate of Betnava is mentioned in 1319, but under the name of Winternaw. Originally the building was a Protestant church with a chapel and a cemetery. In the 16th century, the modest building was expanded, and a moat was dug around it. Since that time the building has turned into a real estate. In 1784, a small chapel of the Holy Cross joined the existing buildings. For her they found a place in the western part of the mansion. The main building was rebuilt in Florentine style.
At different times, the noble families Herberstein, Ursini-Rosenberg owned separately. In 1863 the Bishop of Maribor turned the estate into a summer residence. Front of the main facade of the building is an English park of the XIX century.
