Men's monasteries of Nizhny Novgorod region

The oldest of the monasteries of the Nizhny Novgorod region is the Annunciation Monastery . It was founded in the beginning of the XIII century. In one of the five temples of the monastery there is the Icon of the Mother of God "Korsunskaya" and an icon with a part of the relics of Sergius of Radonezh.

The Oransky Monastery of the Nizhny Novgorod Region was erected in 1634 with the money of the nobleman P.A. Glyadkov. In the dominant temple is a shrine - the Oran icon of the Mother of God.

Ascension Cave Monastery of Nizhny Novgorod was founded in 1328-1330. On the territory of the complex there are the Ascension Cathedral, the Assumption Church, the Euphemia Church and the bell tower.

The most beautiful Spaso-Preobrazhensky monastery was added to the church of Alexander Nevsky in 1905. After the Soviet power was closed in 1927, he was plundered. By 1990, the monastery was returned to the Church.

The Holy Assumption Sarov Hermitage was founded in the early 18th century under the leadership of the Monk Seraphim of Sarov. The main temple of the monastery is the Assumption Cathedral. Here are preserved ancient caves with cells, where the first monks lived.

Women's monasteries in the Nizhny Novgorod region

The Holy Trinity Seraphim-Diveevsky Monastery was built in the second half of the 18th century. On its territory are located one of the most majestic temples of the region - the Trinity Cathedral and the Transfiguration Cathedral.

The most "young" abode of the region - Pokrovsky Monastery - was founded in 2000.

Krestovozdvizhensky monastery arose in the second half of the XIV century. In the Cathedral of the Cross Exaltation there are placed the shrines of the cross-crucifix, 4.5 meters high and a cross with a particle of the Life-giving Cross of the Lord.

St. Nicholas Monastery was founded in 1580. In his St. Nicholas Church, believers pray to the miraculous icon of the Mother of God "Deliverance from the suffering of the suffering" and the icon of the blessed Matrona of Moscow and the holy martyr Tatiana.
