Building and architecture

The Museum of Musical Instruments is located in the huge building of the former department store "Old England". Outwardly it resembles a large glass house with a dome roof decorated with patterned metal frescoes. On its roof there is a gazebo - an observation deck and a cafeteria, from which you will have a stunning view of Brussels. The museum itself was restored in the late 19th century in a neoclassical style. Do not notice the building, passing by, just impossible. Its beauty and elegance attracts a lot of gazes and raises enthusiastic comments.

Inside the museum

The collection of the Museum of Musical Instruments has about 8 thousand exhibits. They are located on four floors of the building and are divided into groups: strings, keyboards, etc. In the collection you can see ancient Indian tribal tambourines and drums, instruments of the 15th century orchestra, old music boxes, saxophones, 16th century pianos and many other amazing exhibits. The most valuable of them are the instruments of Adolphe Sachs, the Chinese belfries and piano by Maurice Ravel. You can check their sound with the help of headphones and recording on the player, which are in the hall of the museum. Museum of Musical Instruments in Brussels is located near the Royal Square. The buses №38, 71, N06, N08 (stop Royale) will help you to reach it. Leaving the public transport , it will be necessary to turn onto Vila Hermosa street, at the end of it there is a museum. It works on all days of the week, except Monday. On weekends it is open from 10 to 17, on weekdays - from 9.30 to 17.00. Admission costs for adults are 4.5 euros, children - free of charge.
