Kadriorg Palace


Kadriorg Palace in Tallinn is one of the most important and interesting tourist sites in Estonia. He is in the park Kadriorg, which Peter founded the first in 1727. Surprisingly, today some of its sites look the same as three centuries ago.

Kadriorg is the summer residence of Peter I

The first park not noticed by the park was first noticed by Peter the Great, who was bribed by a diverse landscape with trees and ponds, as well as the sea, which is only five minutes walk away. The king decided that this place is perfect for his summer residence. In the acquired territory there was a large ancient building, which was suitable for perestroika under a small residence. Today, the building is turned into a museum, which is called the "House of Peter I".

During the arrangement of the park, it was decided to change the landscape, add a few ponds with fountains. The largest is the Swan Pond, it is located at the entrance. It is he who creates the impression among tourists that since Peter the First walked here nothing has changed. The rest of the ponds are in the flower garden next to the Kadriorg Palace.

What is interesting Kadriorg Palace?

Kadriorg Palace is the main architectural object of the palace and park ensemble. The building is designed in the Baroque style. The project of the building was created by the Italian architect Nicolo Michetti. It is believed that the main hall of the palace is the most striking and successful example of Baroque style in Northern Europe. Now concerts and festive receptions are held in this hall. The Hall can accommodate up to 200 people.

At the moment, the Kadriorg Art Museum is located in the Kadriorg Palace. It introduces visitors to foreign and Estonian art. Also in the palace there are balconies, which you can climb and admire the view opened.

Other places of interest in Kadriorg

On 70 hectares of park there are many interesting objects that were built under the tsar. Walking along the paths along which Peter the Great walked himself and resting by the fountains, where the king pondered the future of the Russian Empire seems incredible. But still it is interesting not only to reflect on the short life of Peter in the residence, but to admire the sights of Kadriorg:

  1. The house of Peter I. This is the main attraction of the park. The last time Peter the Great was at the residence in 1724. Today, the "House of Peter I" is a museum whose exhibitions are dedicated to the legendary owner of the palace and the history of Kadriorg.
  2. Swan Lake of the Kadriorg Park . It is located at the very entrance to the park and is a favorite place for visitors. In its center is an island with an arbor, and around it swim black swans.
  3. Children's Museum of Miia Milla Manda . This is an unusual museum for children, where young visitors are introduced to adult life.

How to get there?

You can reach the Kadriorg Palace by public transport. Near the park there is a bus stop "J.Poska" through which there are several routes, namely: 1A, 5, 8, 34A, 38, 114, 209, 260, 285 and 288.
