Ngorongoro

The beautiful nature reserve Ngorongoro in Tanzania has been part of the Serengeti National Park for more than 50 years. It is located inside the crater of a volcano, collapsed under its own weight more than 2 million years ago. This is an amazing and unique place - animals living on the territory of Ngorongoro volcano have practically no chance to get outside. Due to this, a special flora and fauna was formed in the park, without access from outside. Only here you can find about 30 thousand species of animals that live only in Africa. This delightful oasis is surrounded by mountains, it preserves the tropical climate all year round. Having stayed on Ngorongoro for even one day, you will be fascinated by the beauty and magnificence of the pristine nature of Tanzania .

More about Ngorongoro

The area of the crater of Ngorongoro volcano is more than 8 thousand kilometers, and the height of its edges is about 600 m. Since 1979 it was included in the list of World Heritage in UNESCO. The majority of the Olduvai gorge belongs to the park's possessions, where the remains of the first people were found, which are now kept in the anthropological museum .

For the first time in Ngorongoro settled a German farmer Adolf Zidetopf with his family. Later there lived the Maasai tribesmen, who eventually evicted, and Ngorongoro became part of the Serengeti National Park. The Maasai tribes can now be seen along the edges of the crater, they are also engaged in cattle breeding as before.

The bottom of the crater is covered with shrubs and dense high vegetation, where one can often find a lion or other hunted lover on four legs. How all these animals got into a closed territory from outside the world, is still a mystery.
