Painting the ceiling with water-based paint

Now the fashion of painting ceilings with water-based paint has become fashionable. In addition to the fact that it is not toxic and dries quickly, it does not have a sharp odor, and it is economical enough. Fresh water-emulsion is easily removed from the surface, but after drying, it becomes very resistant to external influences.

How to properly paint the ceiling with water-based paint we will tell you in our article.

Choosing the right tools

To paint the ceiling you will need: a small and large roller, a wide paintbrush, a tray, the paint itself, an adhesive tape to protect the non-painted surfaces and a stepladder if you do not have a long handle for the roller.

Preparing the ceiling for painting

First you need to remove the old coating. If it's wallpaper, we moisten them with water, and then rip it off with your hands or go with a spatula. Before painting the whitewashed ceiling with water-based paint, whitewash should also be thoroughly soaked, then carefully peeled off with a spatula.

Having studied carefully the whole surface of the ceiling, we find cracks (if any) and decorate them with putty. It must be said that for proper painting of the ceiling, it is necessary to select the putty and primer recommended by the paint manufacturer.

Priming the ceiling before painting

This stage comes at the end of all the preparatory work. For plastered surfaces, a deeply penetrating primer fits, for conventional ceilings and plasterboard boxes it is best to use a universal primer. To primer the ceiling before painting, you will need a roller, brush and tray. First, you need to use the brush to process the corners, and then the whole ceiling with a roller. Apply a primer a thin layer, in a small amount, without streaks and unmarked. After the primer has completely dried (after 1-2 hours), you can attach all the necessary decorative elements (rosettes, baguettes, curbs, etc.) and start painting.

Technology of painting the ceiling with water-based paint

First, dilute the paint to the desired density, according to the instructions (if the manufacturer recommends) .It is desirable that it is liquid, then there will be no difference between the layers applied. Pour the paint into the bath and you can start painting the edges of the ceiling with a brush. You should form a line 3-5 cm wide from the corner.

When the edges are painted, boldly apply the first layer on the entire surface of the ceiling. Take the roller, dunk it in the paint, and roll it over the jar (by no means on the ceiling), until the paint evenly fills the threads of the roller.

Painting the ceiling with water-based paint is quite simple, the main thing to remember is that the first movement is always carried out in one direction, and each subsequent layer is applied perpendicular to the previous one. The first coat of paint is better applied in the direction of the window.

After the initial painting, go down to the floor and see where there are more bright places on the ceiling. If there are any, paint them first. Then you can apply a second layer, with a direction perpendicular to the window.

Third paint the ceiling with an almost dry roller, with the direction from the window. Then again go down to the floor and look carefully at the ceiling. If you do not notice any stains, the paint is evenly and evenly, let it dry, and do not allow dust to get on the painted surface.

As you can see, painting the ceiling with water-based paint is safe and not at all difficult, but at the same time - reliably and economically.
