Pecilia - reproduction

Pecilia - unpretentious fish, which are very popular among beginners aquarists. They are very easy to breed and maintain. This species was brought at the beginning of the last century from Guatemala and South Mexico and was quickly distributed in the CIS countries.

Pecilia have small dimensions (only 3.5-5 cm) and a wide variety of appearance and color. Initially, as soon as these fish were brought from foreign waters, they had a yellow-brown pigmentation with two large dark spots near the caudal fins. Over time, as a result of breeding in captivity and breeding, individuals with a body shape that remains almost the same as those of their ancestors, but the color is striking in its diversity.

Reproduction of pecilia at home also does not cause difficulties. No special preparation is required, moreover, the process will begin on its own, provided that there are females and males in the aquarium. Pecilia are viviparous fishes, which means that they already have a completely formed male which can swim independently. The presence of algae in the aquarium allows the kids to find a shelter.

With the reproduction of pecilia, there are usually no problems. Sometimes they say that it is more difficult to stop the population of these aquarium fish, rather than start. In order for the process of fertilization to take place, it is enough to have one male in the aquarium for three female individuals. On average, the female viviparous pecilia gives birth every 28 days.

Precautionary measures

One of the important conditions for breeding pecilia at home is to maintain the desired water temperature in the aquarium . Normal indicators are 21-26 ° C, the most optimal are 23-25 ° C. In such conditions, fish favorably exist and actively breed. If the pecils are kept in water, the temperature of which will be higher than these values, they can become infertile.

It should also be remembered that parents can eat defenseless fry, so for the safety of offspring, adults are better off for a while in another aquarium.
