PEP in a child

With the diagnosis of " perinatal encephalopathy " (PEP), many modern parents face the child. And although this name in translation from Greek means "disease of the brain", most often with proper care it goes without a trace. This is further enhanced by the astonishing ability of the child's organism to self-heal and restore. Therefore, if you learned about the diagnosis of PEP in your child, do not panic. On the contrary, parents are now the time to observe peace of mind - this often determines the possibility of recovering the crumbs.

PEP in children: causes and consequences

Encephalopathy in the perinatal period (that is, from 28 weeks of pregnancy to 7 days after birth) is of different origin:

Proceeding from this, the main causes of PEP are obvious: chronic and hereditary diseases, the wrong way of life of the future mother, the pathology of pregnancy and childbirth (toxicosis, the threat of interruption, rapid or protracted labor, birth trauma, etc.). Actually, encephalopathy is a very fuzzy concept, it is a kind of brain disease, and which doctors should definitely clarify and decipher, based on the cause of its origin. In addition, it should be noted that neonatologists and neurologists often make mistakes with the diagnosis of PEP in newborns, since in the first 7 days of life it is very difficult to confidently judge the state of health of the baby, which, apart from crying, can not say anything. Therefore, many children in the outpatient card have records about the detection in the neonatal period of symptoms of PEP, in fact, are not justified. Doctors are simply reinsured, diagnosing encephalopathy in children, which either passes without a trace already in the first few months of life of the crumbs, or it did not exist initially.

But at the same time to know about the possible consequences of this terrible diagnosis is necessary in order to be able to notice dangerous signs in time and prevent the development of complications from the nervous system. So, perinatal encephalopathy is dangerous with such consequences:

Symptoms of PET in a child

The course of the PEP involves an acute and recovery period. The first lasts from birth to 1 month, the second - from 1 month to 1 year (or up to 2 years in premature babies). Symptoms of the disease for these two periods are different.

In an acute period, syndromes of oppression of the nervous system (lethargy, muscle weakness, fading of reflexes), convulsions, increased nervous excitability, hydrocephalus, coma syndrome are characteristic.

The recovery period is characterized by such symptoms as a delay in the development of the child, motor disorders, disruptions in the work of internal organs, epileptic syndrome.

Treatment of PET in a child

Opinions of doctors of our country regarding PEP were divided into two groups. Some believe that pap is a serious illness that needs to be treated medically, and the earlier, the better. Others believe that the children's organism in most cases is able to cope with this problem on its own, and here a wait-and-see tactic is needed.

The medical literature says that the PEP requires treatment with drugs only in the acute period, in the restorative, they are ineffective and the child needs only massages, physiotherapy, phytotherapy, correction of the regime for a year. In any case, the approach to treatment is determined by a neurologist based on the severity of the lesion of the nervous system.
