Suprastin for newborns

Suprastin is an antihistamine drug that has been used for a long time to stop the body's conditions, directly or indirectly associated with uncontrolled synthesis of histamine. It is used in the complex therapy of allergy in adults and children.

In cases of emergency care for newborns, Suprastin is used as an injection for intramuscular injection.

How does it work?

The drug includes substances that already at the level of the cellular organization reduce the release of histamine produced in the mast cells of the immune system in the event of an allergic reaction of any kind. These cells along with the lymph are transferred to different parts of the body, and in the place where the allergen invades, a large amount of histamine is released.

This substance has a destructive effect on a protein that is foreign to the human body. Simultaneously, at the entry point of the allergen, puffiness is formed, skin itching, blisters appear. Individual forms of allergic reactions may be accompanied by spontaneous attacks of suffocation, which are the result of the onset of laryngeal edema.

Already after 30 minutes after taking, you can observe the effect. The very pharmacological action of the drug can last up to 12 hours.

Indications and dosages

In some cases, mothers, faced with allergies in their crumbs, just do not know whether it is possible to give Suprastin to newborns. The answer is unequivocal: you can. According to the instructions, Suprastin can be used to stop any kind of allergic reaction, both in large children and in newborns, but at the same time the appropriate dosage of the drug should be observed.

So, for babies from 1 to 12 months - 1/4 of the tablet for more than 2 times a day, from 1 to 6 years - 1/2 2 times a day. However, even before giving Suprastin to your newborn baby, it is absolutely necessary to consult a doctor.

Contraindications

The main contraindications to the use of this drug are individual intolerance of the components. For a long time of application of Suprastin side effects were not recorded. However, in case of an overdose of the drug, you should urgently seek medical help.

The admission of this medication in any form is strictly prohibited during the current pregnancy. However, in case of an exception, when an allergic reaction threatens the life of the mother, it is possible to use this medication as part of complex therapy and in the dosage prescribed by the doctor.

When breastfeeding the baby, the medication is usually not prescribed, since it is possible to take in the body crumbs of the medicine along with the milk. As a result, there is a formation of so-called immunopathy, which in case of occurrence requires long-term therapy.

Analogues

Fenistil is also used as an analogue for the treatment of allergic reactions. The composition of this drug is similar to Suprastin, so there is no big difference what to give the newborns - Fenistil or Suprastin. In such cases, you must strictly follow the doctor's prescriptions and recommendations.

Thus, an antihistamine drug Suprastin can be successfully used to treat allergic reactions in newborns. However, before using the drug, it is essential to consult a pediatrician who will indicate the frequency of administration and dosage.
