Rabbits have festering eyes

Many beginner rabbit breeders are faced with the fact that the rabbit begins to fester the eyes. The animal is not afraid of neither cold nor frost. Why do rabbits have festering eyes? One possible reason: wind and drafts. That's what rabbits can not stand, and if they live in such conditions, they can easily get sick. Therefore, if you notice pus in the eyes of your rabbit, immediately eliminate drafts and protect the rabbit from the wind.

In addition, pus from the eye of a rabbit may be released due to common infectious diseases , or if a foreign body (dust, grain of sand, straw, sawdust) enters the eye of the animal. Pathogenic microbes are entered into the conjunctival cavity of the eye, which, when multiplying, form purulent discharge. Most often, festering eyes in the rabbit testify to the onset of conjunctivitis - inflammation of the mucous membrane of the eyelids and the eyeball.

Than to treat eyes at rabbits?

In the home, if the rabbit has oculars, they should be washed with a solution of furacilin. But before doing this, you need to check whether the animal's eyes are stuck together because of the excretions. If this happens, you first need to soak the crusts on the eyelids. Take a piece of gauze napkin, soaked in warm water or in a three percent solution of boric acid, and attach for a couple of minutes to each eye of the rabbit. After that, the crusts should soften and they should be carefully removed from the eyes with a napkin.

Then dissolve one tablet of furacilin in 100 grams of hot water, cool the solution and rinse or irrigate the animal's eyes up to three times a day. In addition, you can use to wash the brewed chamomile. After this procedure, you need to use tetracycline ointment, laying it on the rabbit's eyelid three times a day. Or, any ointment containing a corticosteroid with an antibiotic can be used. Another option for eye treatment in rabbits: after washing, drip into each eye of the animal 2-3 drops of the veterinary drug " Bars " or 30% of the solution of the albucid. If after three or four days the eyes of the rabbit continue to fester, you should seek advice from the veterinarian. To treat eye diseases in rabbits, a veterinarian can prescribe special antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory drops.

Remember that with all these manipulations, the rabbit will behave very restlessly, so it's best to carry out all the procedures together.

To avoid conjunctivitis in rabbits in the future, it is necessary to properly equip their dwelling to prevent drafts and wind. Carefully monitor the purity of the cells. Their nutrition should be balanced and must contain carotene.
