Romance style in the interior

After the disappearance of the Roman Empire, in 800 BC, a Romanesque style arose in the interior. It is based on the Byzantine style. It also shows a resemblance to the art of the peoples of northern Europe.

The name of the style was derived from the word "Roma", because exactly in this period of time the traditions of Ancient Rome began to revive.

Characteristics of the Romanesque style

Temples and castles of that time resemble impregnable fortresses, because the style was severe. But, despite this, the frescoes of the Romanesque style occupied a very important place in the temples, to give them softness. Connected with the heaviness was the complexity of life and tough morals of society. Features of the Romanesque style are squat proportions and solidity, as well as numerous arches . There were not many windows in the buildings. The walls were powerful, the columns thick, and the semicircular doors - massive.

It was accepted to tile the floor with mosaic . Most often, a natural stone was used for this. In rooms with such a floor, the walls were decorated with wall paintings. In the interior of the Romanesque style, a special feature was the painted coffered ceiling.

It is impossible not to mention the tables. They were of two kinds - ordinary and lunch. Dining tables differed in that they stood on three legs, which were made in the form of animal paws, and had a trapezoidal shape. They made such tables from expensive types of wood and bronze.
