Description of the archaeological puzzle

Serros is located in the Corozal district in the north of Belize. According to the findings of the researchers, the settlement here was from 400 BC. before 400 AD. During the heyday of Cerros, it was home to more than 2,000 people. They engaged in agriculture, trade. The village is located on the shores of the Caribbean Sea and at the mouth of the river, that is at the intersection of trade routes. This is the only Mayan settlement found on the coast, all the rest are in the jungle jungle.

The ruins of Cerros

Since its inception in the region of 400 BC. Serros was a small village where fishermen, farmers and traders lived. They used fertile soil, and easy access to the sea. Temples began to be built in 50 BC, and the last significant construction was completed in 100 AD. People continued to live here, but they did not build anything fundamental. In the future, the village was abandoned by residents and no one knew about it, until Thomas Gunn in 1900 did not notice the "mounds". Archaeological work began in 1973, when the land was acquired for the construction of the resort, but this did not happen, and the site was handed over to the government of Belize. During the 1970s excavations were carried out, which ended in 1981. In the 1990s, excavations were resumed. Today, Cerros is partially submerged, but what you can see is staggering. These are 5 temples, including the one that rises to 72 feet, associated areas, a large canal system and a panoramic view from the tops of temples. Archaeological Reserve Cerro Maya occupies 52 acres of land and includes 3 large architectural complexes.
