Soborany National Park


The SoberanĂ­a National Park is located near the Panama Canal , in the Canalera de Gamboa area. This protected area is distinguished by unique tropical forests, practically untouched by human activities, and the richest flora and fauna.

The Importance

The territory of the Soboraniya National Park reaches 220 square kilometers. km, most of which - cultivated forest. In addition, there are areas where cotton trees with a height of more than 60 m grow. Soborania is known not only as a residence of rare animals and plants, it often conducts scientific research and observations that supplement the knowledge of mankind about the flora and fauna of these places. In addition, forests growing in the park are involved in the water cycle in nature and thus support the life of the Panama Canal.

Numerous birds

The Soboraniya National Park is famous among ornithologists, as there are over 500 species of birds. Among the most valuable inhabitants of this place can be called the South American grebe, white big heron, toucan, harpies, eagles, red-headed ant and many others. In order to observe the birds in a comfortable atmosphere, the organizers of the park allow the use of the old radar tower as a viewing platform.

Vegetable and animal world of Sobornia

Species composition of animals living in the National Park is amazing. According to observations, about 100 species of mammals live on the territory of Soberia. Typical representatives: howler, capuchin, golden hares, chain-tailed bears, coats and others. Slightly less amphibians (80 species) and reptiles (50 species).

The plant world of the national park is represented by one and a half thousand varieties.

Park trails

It is no wonder, that on such huge area various tourist routes are laid, allowing to study the park thoroughly. The most popular are the Sendero el Charco, the Camino de Cruces, the Camino de la Plantasin and others. For beginners, the Sendero-el-Charco path, only 2 km long, will provide a rest and bathing time. For more experienced tourists, the complex route of the Camino de Cruces is recommended, which will last about four hours and pass along the road used by the Spaniards to export gold from Panama .

Helpful information

Visit the Soboraniya National Park from 07:00 to 19:00 hours daily. For the entrance you will have to pay a nominal fee of $ 3. Movement on the territory of the park is carried out independently. In order not to get lost, at the entrance get a detailed map of the area.

For the convenience of tourists in the National Park, camping is arranged, for a stop in which hourly payment is provided.

How to get there?

The Soboraniya National Park is located 45 km from Panama. You can get there by taxi and bus. Taxis should be booked to the Saca stop, then change to public transport next to Gamboa , and from there it's just a stone's throw away.
