In the ranking of the highest-altitude cities in the world, Singapore is located in fourth place after Hong Kong, New York and Moscow.
The first skyscraper appeared here in 1939 - it was the 17-story 70-meter building of the Cathay Building , which at that time was the highest in Southeast Asia. Over 2 decades - from 1970 to 1990 - 11 skyscrapers with a height of 170 meters were built. Today in Singapore there are 3 high-rise buildings, whose height reaches 280 m; For a long time they managed to remain the tallest, because the excess of this altitude is simply prohibited by law - it is believed that the high altitude hinders the flights of military aircraft from the nearby base Paya-Lebar. Nevertheless, the company GuocoLand received a special permit, and now is engaged in the erection of a 290-meter 78-storey building Tanjong Pagar Center ; The construction will be completed in 2016.
We will tell you about several of the highest and most famous skyscrapers in Singapore.
