Sliding interior doors

Each of us sooner or later there is a need for repair, and the choice of interior doors becomes, at times, a stumbling block in the way of renovation of housing. Undoubtedly, this issue should be treated with all responsibility, because the choice will depend on the beauty of the interior comfort of all living in the house.

Sliding interior doors in recent years have become very popular and common. They are especially relevant in small apartments, as they save space considerably.

Types of sliding doors

There are several types of sliding doors, and we'll look at some of them:

  1. One-, two-leaf sliding doors . When you open the sash parted in the sides, the door does not need to install a door frame - it is enough to mount a special mechanism (rails and rollers). Single-leaf and double-leaf doors differ in width of the doorway, which they close themselves. If you do not need to use both doors, you can fix one of them and use only one half.
  2. Interior sliding doors in the wall (door-pencil case) - their doors move not parallel to the wall, but leave into it. In the open position, the leaf is hiding in the niche. The advantage of such a door is that it does not violate the integrity of the design and is completely invisible, although it requires the construction of an additional gypsum board structure.
  3. Turn-sliding interior doors - a unique system, when the canvas during the opening first folds in half on the principle of the book, and then, after making an elegant turn in the opening, silently located along the wall. Doors can have one or two doors.

Also there is an option of sliding and sliding doors, when the mechanism simultaneously opens and moves the entire door leaf. And these doors can open in any direction. They are much superior to conventional sliding doors for heat and sound insulation.

Advantages and disadvantages of sliding interior doors

Let's start with the positive characteristics of this type of door:

  1. They save a lot of space compared to traditional swing doors. Sliding doors are compact, so that a narrow corridor does not suffer at all from the installation of doors, and you will move with ease even on a small apartment.
  2. Using them is quite convenient, moreover, they are easy to manage even for people with disabilities, including, on wheelchairs.
  3. You can always make and install sliding doors with your own hands. This will be much easier than with a swing analog. By the way, you can use the same swing door to convert it into a sliding door.
  4. With the help of such doors it is possible to build a system of transformable partitions in the room.

To the negative sides of the sliding doors are the following moments:

  1. Incomplete tightness of the vestibule. You can not completely cover such a door, there will still be a microscopic gap that will let in sounds, smells, steam from the bathroom, cold or heat. Do not have this lack of only swivel-sliding doors, as they combine the advantages of sliding and swinging doors.
  2. The guide of such doors is usually located on top, and from the bottom they are equipped with an emphasis, because of what the door sometimes sticks.
  3. The process of opening and closing sliding doors is accompanied by noise and sometimes creaking (with insufficient lubrication).
  4. Over time, all the mechanisms of the sliding doors are blurred, so they serve less than the swing doors.
  5. The cost of sliding doors is higher than swing doors, and this applies not only to the doors as such, but also to payment for installation works.
