Among the huge variety of finishing materials, structural decorative plaster takes an honorable place. It is used both for internal works in premises of all possible directions, and for exterior decoration of walls.
Structural plaster is an inhomogeneous granular mass with the addition of a variety of small elements - pebbles, quartz, granules, mica, wood and so on. These constituent parts differ in size and structure, therefore, based on their characteristics, the structural plaster can be finely or coarse-grained. Outwardly, these types of finishing material have noticeable differences: the fine-grained plaster on the walls looks almost flat, and the filler is larger - the more roughened and original the walls are.
The basis for the manufacture of structural plaster can be a mineral mixture (cement-lime), potassium silicate or artificial latex. The base of the plaster is water and on solvents. Water-based plaster is convenient to use indoors, because it has no smell and will not cause discomfort to residents. But structural plaster on the basis of a solvent is often used for external works.
Why does this stuff remain popular for quite some time? Let's look at its positive and negative sides.

That the structural plaster had an excellent appearance and lasted a long time, it is necessary to observe the main principles when applying it.
The process of applying structural plaster
- Release the mills from the old finish, carefully remove the remnants of wallpaper, glue and other foreign materials.
- Make a primer of the walls to strengthen their surface and protect the dampness and appearance of the fungus in the future.
- Apply structural plaster according to the manufacturer's recommendations on the dried walls after priming. Remember that work should begin from the top of the wall or from the ceiling, if you cover it with plaster. Use a spatula, roller or spray - depending on the material structure.
- When the desired relief is achieved and the thickness of the coating - let the plaster dry, then wipe the surface with a damp bottom.
