The creators of "Forms of water" were suspected of plagiarism!

The film "The Shape of the Water" by American director Guillermo Del Toro is triumphantly marching through cinemas all over the world. This film was highly appreciated not only by film critics, but also by movie fans. Not in vain, the picture has already received 13 nominations for the Oscar. However, it seems that Guillermo Del Toro can have quite serious problems. He, as a director and script writer, was accused of plagiarism! It turns out that in the distant 1969 the Pulitzer Prize winner Paul Zindel published a play called "Let me hear your whisper". The plot of the work surprisingly echoes the story told by Del Torro.

This information was made public by an open letter from the playwright's son, David Zindel, which was published in The Guardian.

In particular, in the text of the letter there is such a phrase:

"We are shocked by the fact that such a large and significant film company took the film into production without noticing such a clear similarity with the plot of my father's play. The film studio did not recognize this, and did not ask our family to get the rights to use the plot. "

Opportunity to settle the conflict

The spectators who have already watched the film and read the above play assert that there is a similarity between these two works.

Judge for yourself: Mr. Sindel's play deals with a secret laboratory in which a woman works as a cleaner. She falls in love with the dolphin. The plot of "Forms of water" is also built around the love story of a cleaning lady, the truth is dumb, and an amazing creature dwelling in the bowels of a secret laboratory.

As you can see, the tie really does have a lot in common, does not it?

To date, the company that released a fantastic film "Form of Water" rejects all accusations of the rightholder "Let me hear your whisper." Press service of Fox Searchlight Studio claims that the idea of the film is original and the idea belongs exclusively to Del Toro. The director of Mexican descent never read the play of Zindel and did not see the productions on its basis.
