Transport in Morocco

Morocco is a good choice for a budget tourist. The country is provided with all types of transport, which can be used for a relatively small fee. Traffic in Morocco is carried out with the help of buses, trains and planes. The latter, naturally, are very expensive and comfortable. However, all transport in Morocco is more detailed and in order.

Buses

One of the most convenient and cheapest ways to travel around Morocco is buses. Here they are in abundance. Do not be afraid to be captured by a careless driver - everyone has the necessary qualifications and responsibly refers to their work. Incidentally, this applies not only to drivers, but also conductors. No one will pass by a hare - the check is carried out up to three times per trip. Those who had the courage to ride for free, are mercilessly expelled from the bus right in the middle of the road, having paid not a small fine beforehand.

The official state carrier is CTM. They are desperately trying to create competition with local private buses, in which, alas, often there is neither an air conditioner nor free seats. But they are cheaper, at least some advantage should be.

Tickets for the bus can be purchased at the ticket offices at the bus station. Usually it is not in the center, but closer to the bypass. If it's evening, it's better to take a taxi to secure a safe road. It will cost you 25-55 dirhams. And yes, keep a close eye on your wallet! The crowd of people in such places is huge, which is exactly in the hands of pocket thieves. They steal everywhere and in every way, so try to dress more quickly, so as not to attract unnecessary attention, and, of course, you should not "shine" money in such crowded places. It will be best if you do not keep all the money in one place, but divide and put them in completely different and unexpected parts of your baggage and attire. For 80 dirhams you can go from Ouarzazate to Marrakech , and for 150 from Essaouira to Casablanca .

Railway transport

It is worth paying tribute to the railway transport of Morocco - tourists are pleasantly surprised by the trains of the country. The main state company engaged in passenger transportation is ONCF. Delay is allowed within 15 minutes, and the trip itself passes without unnecessary adventures. The trains are clean, it should be noted. The total length of railways in the state is 2500 kilometers. They are stretched from the capital of Rabat to Casablanca , from Fez and to Tangier , from Uzhdi and to Algiers.

By the way, local trains are divided into high-speed trains (80 km / h), local call them rapidis, and ordinary, that is ordinaire, which develop a speed of about 40 km / h. By the way, if you do not want to spend a lot of money on a place to stay overnight, reserve a bed in a special night train. You can do it at the railway station. Bunks, of course, not a bed in a hotel , do not expect much comfort. But in this way you can save both time and money.

Trains are ordinary, comfortable and fast comfortable. In the last two cases, you will come across a choice of class. In fact, there is no difference between the 1st and 2nd grades in these trains, so take the second safely - it will be cheaper. Prices for tickets are different, but for students and people under the age of 26 there is a special system of discounts. Children under the age of 4 go free, up to 12 - they pay, but with a big discount. Approximately 90 dirhams can be the 2nd class from Marrakech to Casablanca , and 20 from Meknes to Fez . The first class ticket from Tangier to Marrakech will cost around 300-320 dirhams, and the second class - 200. The difference in price is quite substantial, but in practice - no. As in the case of buses, in any case, do not try to drive a hare. Checking tickets takes place more than twice during a trip, so you can not go unnoticed. Have to pay a fine. You'll be lucky if you have time to get to point "B", otherwise you will be driven out of the train right in the middle of the road.

Taxi and car rental

On the roads of Morocco, passengers are picked up by small and large taxis. Small cars are cars with a flag on the roof. Such cars can accommodate up to 3-4 people, and are taken for relatively short distances. The cost of such a trip is 1 USD per 1 kilometer, although it is possible to bargain - there is no counter in one taxi.

As for large or, as the local people say, the "grand" taxi is an analog of our minibuses. In the way such a machine is sent only when all seats are occupied. Usually they are used to move to another city. The prices are different, they depend on the distance. The driver at the end of the trip calls the price, passengers divide it among themselves and fold.

To use the car rental service, you must be over the 21st year, have an international driving license and a credit card. The cost of car rental per day is about 40 USD. Adding some more money, you can take a car with a driver.

Be vigilant when choosing a car, after all, quite often behind a beautiful car there is an incredible amount of breakdowns and malfunctions, which can then be "hung up" on you and your sloppiness. In this case, you need not only to trust, but also to check, as they say. In general, make sure the machine is in good working order before you drive. You do not want to pay extra?

Sea transport

Morocco is called the "gateway to Europe", therefore it is not surprising that sea transport here is very, very popular. Of course, for the most part it is used for the transportation of cargo, however, and for tourists, something is saved. The country is connected with Spain by ferry lines Nador - Almeria and Tangier - Algeciras. There are also lines from Tangier to Genoa, Seth and the beautiful Barcelona.
