Parquet is one of the most durable and expensive floor coverings , therefore when laying requires special efforts. The choice of glue in this case plays a key role. The quality of the adhesion of the parquet board and the base will depend on how long you will enjoy your luxurious floor.
Advantages of two-component parquet glue
Parquet glue must meet the following requirements:
- secure gluing of parquet to the floor surface;
- ecological compatibility, absence of harmful components;
- quick drying;
- long service life.
All these characteristics are to some extent inherent in three types of glue - water-based dispersion glue, glue on alcohols and solvents and parquet two-component polyurethane glue.
The advantages of the latter are undeniable, because water glue is not suitable for many types of wood, sensitive to moisture, and solvent-based glue contains harmful substances and has a sharp odor.
While the two-component adhesive for parquet is completely odorless, it is the most durable and reliable of all, and is also suitable for bonding all kinds of surfaces - not just parquet and plywood, but also plywood with a concrete screed.
Another plus of a two-component glue for a parquet board is that its drying time is only 24 hours, and not 3-6 days, as it happens with two other types of glue. Its solidification is due to a chemical reaction when the components are mixed.
The only two drawbacks of this glue is that, firstly, after mixing, it is necessary to have time to use it for 2 hours, after which it becomes unfit for this, and secondly, it costs more than water and alcohol glue.
The last disadvantage is more than compensated by the fact that the adhesive dries quickly, provides maximum strength and durability, is not afraid of moisture, is suitable for different surfaces, does not contain harmful substances. It can be said that the two-component glue becomes the choice of those who appreciate the quality and who are interested in the timing of the work.
Rules for the use of two-component polyurethane adhesive for parquet
The main purpose of such glue is fixation of parquet boards (piece and massive). Glue on it can be both classical and exotic wood species. The floor covering with polyurethane adhesive is resistant to severe mechanical stress and does not shrink.
Among the features of using two-component parquet glue:
- The substrate should be as flat as possible, firm, clean and dry;
- if necessary, the substrate can be primed first;
- the humidity of the substrate and the environment must match that indicated on the package with glue, otherwise foam may form on the surface of the adhesive;
- On the instructions, component B should be added to component A, after which it is necessary to thoroughly mix them with a construction mixer at 200-300 rpm for 3 minutes, while increasing the speed will lead to an increase in the temperature of the mixture and a decrease in setting time.
In general, working with two-component polyurethane glue requires certain skills, because non-compliance with all rules and nuances will lead to changes in its useful properties. For example, you must necessarily mix the glue in the container in which it is bought and carefully monitor the proportion of components without violating it.
Stacking parquet after the preparation of the mixture must be done quickly enough, since the glue's life is limited to 1-2 hours. Accordingly, laying the planks should be a professional who is able to cope with the matter not only quickly, but also qualitatively.
