Vlassoids in cats

Vlasyoids are close relatives of lice. They feed on skin scales or curdled blood (fresh do not suck). They are distributed almost everywhere and they can get infected by an animal at any time of the year.

What do the witches look like?

The mite is a wingless insect. Has a flat body about 2 mm in length. The head has the shape of a quadrilateral, flat and slightly wider than the body of the parasite. A female mite swallow can lay up to 60 eggs in a cat's fur. After one or two weeks these eggs ripen and larvae emerge from them. Larvae after 20 days have time to pour three times and turn into insects. Vlayoids can appear at the cat on contact with the infected animal, and small kittens can catch this infection from a sick mother.

Very often, withers appear in those cats that are not sufficiently taken care of. If the cat is inadequately fed and care for her leaves much to be desired, picking up withers for her is easy.

Vlasyoids in cats: symptoms

The most important symptom of the appearance of this disease is permanent itching of the skin. For young cats, this disease is more difficult and they pick it up more often than adults. When a cat has withers, it becomes restless and constantly combs the affected area. After the animal has scratched the skin, abrasions, scratches, and dermatitis may occur at this site. As a consequence, you can expect baldness of skin areas, phlegmon, depletion of the animal.

If you notice symptoms of the presence of withers, check the coat of the cat. When an animal is infected with fleas or lice, it always tries to find it in the wool and constantly "bites" them. You can easily detect withers, if you carefully look at the fur of a cat.

But the mite itself is not as terrible as the consequences of its appearance. When a cat has withers, it becomes sluggish, exhausted. In this case, all the diseases that were in the animal, but passed asymptomatically, exacerbated. In more severe cases, the cat may develop anemia. Because of the constant rending of the affected areas of the skin, it can pick up infection or various infestations.

Vlasyedy: treatment

The most common method of combating withers is the use of insecticides. It can be various emulsions, solutions or dusts, sprays. Prescribe treatment should only be a specialist. All these drugs are very toxic and the duration of action on the skin of the animal they have different. Depending on how carefully you apply the insecticide to the cat's skin and what form of release prefer treatment will have different efficacy.

Drugs that are used for treatment should be used twice. The fact is that chemicals have a harmful effect on adult insects and larvae, but they can not overcome eggs. That is why it is recommended to use insecticides in summer and winter. In summer the treatment is carried out every 12 days, and in the winter it is enough to take a break of 18 days. The treatment should be carried out at least twice.

It should be taken into account that the drugs are toxic and affect not only the parasites, but also the animal. If you use emulsions or gels, be sure to put your Elizabethan collar on the cat. Otherwise, the animal will lick the chemicals and simply die.

Never use several drugs at once. With simultaneous exposure, they can become very strong chemicals, which will ruin the cat. Do not forget to treat all the rooms where the cat is usually located. For prevention, regularly inspect the coat of a cat, do not let it come into contact with unhealthy animals.
