Vikasol is a drug that belongs to the pharmacological group of indirect coagulants, designed to stimulate the processes of fibrinous thrombus formation and increase blood coagulability. It is a synthetic water-soluble analogue of vitamin K, the lack of which in the body can cause hemorrhagic phenomena - sudden hemorrhages and bleeding. It should be noted that K-vitamin deficiency is often observed in diseases of the liver, intestines, and overdose with anticoagulants.
Composition and Form Release of Vikassol
This drug is produced in two forms:
- solution for injections in ampoules;
- tablets for oral administration.
The active substance of the drug acts menadione sodium bisulfite, contained in 1 ml of the solution in an amount of 0.01 grams, and in one tablet - in an amount of 0, 015 g. As additional components in the solution are such substances: a solution of hydrochloric acid, sodium metabisulphite, water for injections. The auxiliaries in the tablets are as follows: sucrose, calcium stearate monohydrate, starch, povidone, sodium disulphite.
Indications for use of the drug Vikasol
The active substance of the drug, taking part in a considerable number of physiological processes in the body, helps maintain the process of hemostasis, normalizes the function of blood clotting, activates protein synthesis of prothrombin in the hepatic tissues. Its appointment to adult patients is advisable in the following cases:
- bleeding due to a low content of prothrombin in the blood, caused by jaundice, acute hepatitis;
- capillary and parenchymal hemorrhages;
- nasal and hemorrhoidal hemorrhages;
- bleeding for tuberculosis of the lungs;
- ulcerous bleeding;
- premenopausal uterine bleeding;
- uterine bleeding at pubertal age;
- severe symptoms of acute radiation sickness ;
- large-scale surgical interventions and injuries;
- overdose of drugs-anticoagulants of indirect action;
- late pregnancy with a risk of bleeding in infants.
Method of application Vikasola
The solution of Vikasol is intended for intramuscular administration, with the maximum daily dose in most cases not exceeding 3 ml. The average dose of the drug in the form of tablets is 0.015 to 0.3 g per day (maximum - 0.6 g per day). Apply the drug for 3-4 days, followed by a four-day break and a second course for 3-4 days. As a rule, the daily dose is divided into several receptions (up to three). Before the surgical interventions associated with the risk of bleeding, the use of the drug begins a couple of days before the operation. It should be taken into account that the drug begins to act after 12-18 hours after administration.
