In the south-western part of the Crimea there is Sevastopol - a cultural, historical and industrial and commercial center of the Crimean peninsula. Sevastopol has a long history: on these lands was located the Greek colony, later the territory was part of the Roman state and the Byzantine Empire. The only panorama in Ukraine "The Defense of Sevastopol" is a huge canvas 115 m long and 14 m high, supplemented with historical subject artifacts. The panorama is located in the building with a viewing platform in the center and is dedicated to the defenders of Sevastopol in the Crimean War, who held defense for 349 days.
Diorama "Assault of Sapun Mountain"
Diorama is a branch of the National Museum of Sevastopol and is located near the city on Sapun Mountain. The ground floor accommodates the exposition "Sevastopol in the years of the Great Patriotic War". Not far from the building there is an open museum exposition of the military equipment of the military era: tanks, self-propelled guns, antiaircraft guns and so on. The 28-meter obelisk and the Eternal Flame are dedicated to the heroic defense of Sevastopol.
St. Vladimir's Cathedral
St. Vladimir's Cathedral in Sevastopol - a temple of the second half of the XXIX century, is a national monument of architecture and history. The majestic structure is known not only for its elegant decoration, but also for the fact that on the territory of the cathedral there are burials of famous admirals of Sevastopol - remarkable military commanders and patriots.
Intercession Cathedral
The Intercession Cathedral in Sevastopol, whose construction was started in the distant XXIX century, and finished in the beginning of the XX century, has an unusual architecture. The building of the basilica type is crowned by a pointed arch and four turrets, having a hipped roof.
St. George Monastery
A lot of legends and historical facts exist about the St. George Monastery in Sevastopol, which found refuge near Cape Fiolent. A sacred place in the form of a cave church existed here since the 1st century AD, it was arranged by Andrew the First-Called - disciple and companion of Jesus Christ. In the IX century, miraculously escaped from the wreck of the Greek explorers, they found on the rocks a miraculous icon of St. George. They became the first inhabitants of the monastery. St. George's monastery is still striking with its grandeur, and the unusual scenic nature of the locality gives birth to thoughts of beauty and eternity.
