Wood Chopper

Garden shredders have recently become popular and popular. This equipment is very helpful in the farm, reducing the amount of garbage and turning it into mulching material or the basis for compost . However, before acquiring this miracle of technology, one must understand its most important characteristics in order to approach with a cleverness its choice.

How to choose a wood chopper?

First of all, it is necessary to pay attention to the power and type of its engine, as well as the type of blade system and the possibility of processing various garbage. Also important is the weight of the device itself, as well as the size of the funnel, where the garbage is fed. Additional selection criteria can be called the possibility of automation, the presence of protection, the reverse of the system, the ability of the chopper to process wood in the soils and so on.

There are two main types of knife cutter system:

  1. Disk. It looks like a disk with two or more steel knives. The stroke of the disc sets the shaft, and the speed and quality of the processing of branches, bark and other wood debris depends on the material: most of the disk shredders are suitable for thin branches, grass, stems, leaves. If you load dry branches into the machine, the blades will blunt faster.
  2. Milling. It is a solid knife system in the form of a gear. It is much more practical and reliable, since in such an instrument it is possible to grind dry branches up to 4.5 mm in diameter. Another advantage of the milling shredder is that it is equipped with an independent retraction mechanism so that you no longer have to move the trash into the funnel. You can simply download the branches and continue to do their own business. In addition, you can choose the processing fraction.

Types of wood shredders by type of engine:

  1. Electric. Low-power devices (1.6-2.6 kW) with low noise level, capable of processing branches with a diameter of up to 4.5 mm. They are easy to maintain and their cost is very attractive. However, they are not mobile, since their movement along the section is limited by the length of the wire. In addition, they are afraid of voltage fluctuations in the network.
  2. Petrol. More powerful devices (up to 8 kW), which cope with almost any garbage, including branches up to 6 mm in diameter. They can be moved around the site without problems. Such devices are equipped with a two- or four-stroke engine, which work well, although they make a loud noise.

Types of wood choppers for cottages depending on capacity:

  1. Amateur. Crushers with low power - up to 1.6 kW. They have low weight (up to 20 kg), an electric motor and a knife cutting system made of steel. With their help, you can take care of a young site, where the top priority is the processing of grass, tops, young shoots.
  2. Crushers of middle class. They can be both electric and gasoline, their power is within 2.5 kW. They are a bit heavier, but they outperform amateur models in their capabilities. With their help, you can process stems and branches up to 3.5 mm in diameter. Devices are usually equipped with comfortable wheels for moving, a retraction system, a milling cutter system and a funnel for the formation of mulch.
  3. Professional models of garden shredders. Their power is higher than 3.8 kW, they have large dimensions and large weight. They operate on a three-phase electric or gasoline engine, they are often equipped with a wide funnel, a powerful cutting mill and an automatic retraction mechanism. Branches and bark in them can not only be crushed, but also compacted, resulting in a qualitative mulch . These plants cope with branches up to 6 mm in diameter and are used in large gardens and farms.
