Bicentennial Park

The Bicentennial Park was named in honor of the 200th anniversary of the founding of the Australian state. He took the first visitors back in 1988 and is on the coast of the Hombash Bay, located 16 km west of one of Australia 's largest cities - Sydney .

Features of the park zone

Despite the vast area, tourists will not be able to walk around the park. Approximately 100 hectares are occupied by wetlands listed in the Australian natural heritage list and protected by environmental laws. And only 40 hectares are a recreational area in which walks are allowed.

It often hosts ecological tours for everyone, where the guide will tell you in detail about the fauna and flora of the area, as well as a variety of sports competitions. If you are tired, do not be shy, but just settle down and relax on the green lawn under the sprawling branches of trees.

The park is a very comfortable place, where there are wooden hiking and cycling paths, parking lots, as well as picnic areas. Children will be happy to play on modern playgrounds with fountains-crackers, sandpits, slides, structures for climbing and swings. In the east of the park zone there flows the stream of Powell's Creek, near which it is very pleasant to sit on a hot, sultry day.

The most interesting attractions of the Park of the Bicentennial are:

The trellis tower is built in the style of a medieval castle surrounded by mangroves and reaches a height of 17 m. Climbing the stairs to its third floor, you will be rewarded with a beautiful view of the surrounding area.

In the park you can walk with dogs, except in places where they can disturb the inhabitants of the local fauna. The nature of the Bicentennial Park provides a unique opportunity to watch the birds of Australia through binoculars. Especially a lot of birds live in the area of 4 hectares, which is occupied by the swampy terrain near the river. Ducks, a small godwit, an ostrich sandpiper and other marsh birds live here. When you are tired of long walks, you can relax over a cup of coffee or a fresh breakfast in the park cafe "Lily's Park."

How to get to the park?

It can be reached by bus 433, which goes towards Balmain, or by car to the road Homebush Bay Dr, which encircles the coast.
