Boni National Park

In the territory of Kenya, a large number of national reserves are open, flora and fauna of which pleases with its diversity. Thanks to environmental organizations and special programs, the government managed to save many endangered species of animals. This applies to the Boni National Park, which became the home of the African elephant population.

Features of the park

Boni National Park was founded in 1976 and originally served as a habitat for elephant populations migrating from the city of Lamu . Due to poaching, the number of these animals decreased dramatically, so the reserve was transferred to the Office of Environmental Protection Service of Kenya. The national park has received its name thanks to the hollow forest of Bony, which due to its high density is considered to be one of the largest in the world.

The biodiversity of the park

The territory of the Boni National Park is very diverse. Here you can find exotic plants, mangroves, savannahs and marshy meadows. Through it there are rivers and canals along which dense thorns and giant baobabs grow. This creates favorable conditions for the life of many animals and birds. During the visit to the Boni National Park, you can meet the following species of herbivores and predators: hippos, warthogs, antelopes, buffaloes, zebras, shrubby pigs, hyena dogs, earth wolves.

Many of these animals are not found in any country in the world, others are at the stage of extinction. But at the same time there live animals that are still unexplored. In this part of Kenya , two dry and two wet seasons are recorded, therefore the appearance of the Boni National Park changes twice a year.

How to get there?

The Boni National Park is located in the north-eastern province of Kenya - Garissa. You can get to it from the same name of the city of Garissa , which is the capital of the province, or from the city of Lamu. To do this, it is best to take a taxi or rent a car.
