Bird reserve Dick Dent


Among the diversity of nature reserves, which are full of South Africa , it is worth highlighting the bird sanctuary Dick Dent; is a park, most of which is occupied by water objects and swamps. They are inhabited by a large number of waterfowl, including waders and Ethiopian snipe.

Where is the reserve?

The bird sanctuary of Dick Dent is located on the outskirts of Cape Town , on Broadway Boulevard, which is on the road to Somerset West.

Today, about ten hectares of land are allocated to the bird park - the reserve, located at the mouth of the Lourens River, is completely isolated. To enter it there are two gates.

Earlier, in these places, cleaning works were carried out, designed to fight the marshes, but now the park is included in the protected environment called "Lourens River".

The ornithologist John Clements became the initiator of the creation of the reserve zone. He plays the leading role in organizing a kind of sanctuary for birds, where they are protected by law and can freely develop and reproduce.

The bird sanctuary of Dick Dent is an ideal place for bird worshipers. By the way, amateurs of ornithology conduct monthly organized meetings on the territory of the park - every second Tuesday of the month at 15:00 or 16:00 depending on the time of the year.
