What is interesting about Solis Theater?

The history of the theater began in the 17th century, when Miguel Cane complained about the absence of institutions worthy of accepting world-class foreign artists. Since this period proved to be quite complicated for the country, the cultural sphere of life was also experiencing a deep crisis. As the situation improved slightly, about 160 investors decided to restore and establish a number of facilities and organizations that would contribute to the spiritual development of Uruguayans. The Solis Theater was one of them.

As the chief architect was the Italian Carlo Dzukki, with some amendments and improvements, also participated in the design of Francisco Hermendio.

The building is decorated in the spirit of classicism. The facade of the Solis Theater is supported by massive columns of Italian marble. The roof is crowned by a lantern in which the light was lit every time before the presentation, informing people about it. Officially Solis Theater opened its doors for visitors on August 25, 1856. On the same day the opera "Ernani" was staged, which became an unchanged part of the repertoire to this day.

Modernity

The Solis Theater is considered to be the oldest in Uruguay . During its existence, it underwent several large-scale reconstructions. In particular, from 1998 to 2004 the building was subject to a capital restoration, which cost the government of Uruguay $ 110 thousand.

Today the theater continues to be successful both among locals and tourists. At one time, such world stars as Enrique Caruso, Montserrat Caballe, Anna Pavlova and others performed on his stage.

It is worth noting that the theater is adapted for people with disabilities. Moreover, visitors with such features are provided with free entrance. The rest to visit the theater will have to pay $ 20. In addition to performances, organized tours are also organized here, which introduce visitors to the scenery behind the scenes.
