Convulsions in newborns

Cramps in a baby who just appeared in the world is a phenomenon, unfortunately, quite often in recent times. In this article we will consider the question of convulsions in a newborn child, about their causes, symptoms and treatment features.

Symptoms of convulsive syndrome in newborns

Cramps can begin in the baby immediately after childbirth. This shakes the upper part of his body, his head, hands and feet. The convulsive syndrome can be expressed and not so strongly: only the chin and hands tremble (this phenomenon is called a tremor of the newborns). This process is caused by spasms of the muscles that arise due to neuralgic problems.

Often newborn babies have cramps in their sleep, appearing mainly in the legs. The child behaves restlessly, wakes up, shouts violently, pulls the limbs. Such cramps are usually observed in children in the first year of life, until the child's body aligns in its development and the nervous system does not mature to normal.

Causes of seizures in newborns

The main cause of convulsive syndrome in infants is an intrauterine underdevelopment of the nervous system, in which the centers of the nerve endings that are located in the brain, move the muscles of the parts of the body.

In addition, the indirect cause of seizures can also be covered in excessive amounts of the norepinephrine hormone in the baby's blood. For its production, the adrenal glands are responsible: under their underdevelopment, hypersecretion of this hormone is observed. All these factors indicate that the newborn is still difficult to exist outside the mother's womb.

In most cases, seizures occur in preterm infants born 1-2 months before the term, as well as after severe labor, when maternal labor was poor, accent and asphyxia in the fetus, birth injuries, etc. This can occur as a result of oxygen starvation, when the integrity of the fetal membrane is disturbed. The presence of neurological disorders in children is also affected by the state of health of the mother during pregnancy. In a word, there can be a lot of factors that lead to the appearance of seizures in newborns.

Methods of treatment of convulsions in newborns

Neuralgic diseases in newborns are treated by the following methods:

If time to pay attention to this and take appropriate measures, they will necessarily bear fruit, and by the year the state of the child will improve, development will stabilize and convulsions will pass. However, children with convulsive syndrome are shown a preventive examination with a neurologist every three months until they are fully recovered.
