Drip irrigation system with own hands

If you decide to build your own hands a system of drip irrigation for a summer residence or a plot, it means that you have no doubts about its necessity. Naturally, it's impossible to get a good harvest without regular watering. Daily to collect buckets of water and pour them around the garden - the task is labor-intensive and not always justified. In this article we will tell you how to make a drip irrigation system with your own hands from affordable and inexpensive materials.

Assembling the system

In order to build a homemade drip irrigation device, prepare a plastic container, a tapping socket with an external thread, a tap, a filter, a futon, a plug, a coupling, a water pipe, a fitting with a rubber band, fittings and a drill bit.

  1. First of all, fix the water tank on the surface.
  2. Then it should make a sidebar at an altitude of 6-10 centimeters from the bottom. This is necessary to ensure that the garbage located on the bottom of the tank does not enter the system.
  3. After connecting the tap to it, a filter with an adapter to the pipe is installed.
  4. After this, the pipe should be carried along the beds that you plan to irrigate.
  5. At the end, the pipe should be muffled or a crane mounted on it.
  6. Opposite the beds in the tube are made holes for the installation of connectors.
  7. Then, the fittings are installed and a drip band is connected.
  8. At both ends, the irrigation line is muffled. The irrigation system is ready.

It remains to pour water in the tank and turn on the device. The system shown in our example can be used for watering the garden, the area of which does not exceed 12 hectare.

Useful tips for gardeners

In order for the system to function without interruptions and breakdowns, a number of rules must be observed. First, try to use clean water for irrigation without any debris. If the particles fall into the pipe, you will have to disassemble the system and wash it. By the way, be sure to flush the system before you first turn it on. Clean the filter weekly. In the event that you add liquid fertilizers to the water for irrigation, purchase only those that are water soluble. If the emitters in the watering tape get clogged, they will have to be changed. After the feeding of plants is completed, be sure to fill the entire system with running water to rinse all the components from the remnants of fertilizers. If this is not done, the solid particles will settle in the system in the form of deposits. At the end of each season, the drip irrigation system should be dismantled, thoroughly rinsed, dried and stored in a dry place until the start of the new season.

Express watering

Sometimes there are situations when it is necessary to leave for a few days, and what to do with the garden? Folk craftsmen and this problem have solved. If the garden is small, and you will not be absent longer than a week, even at the height of summer your plants will be provided with moisture due to drip irrigation from bottles. For this, it is necessary to fill a two-liter plastic bottle with water, tighten the lid tightly, and then use a needle to make small holes in it on the sides. After that, bottles of water are buried along the neck between rows of plants. it is desirable that the distance from the bottle to them does not exceed 20 centimeters. Gradually, water will seep through the holes, and soak up the soil, feeding the plants. Note that two holes will be sufficient for irrigation of sandy soils. If the soil is thick and heavy, then make three or four holes.

Another option is to hang up inverted bottles of water with pre-pierced holes above the plants. But two days later, there will be no trace of water in the bottle.
