Sliding folding door "book"

Structural features of folding doors

The opening and closing mechanism is the basis of any type of sliding door and its supporting structure. This mechanism consists of a rail (upper guide) and fasteners, to which the leaf is suspended. The rail is made of metal, mounted on the upper part of the doorway. Its visible part is covered with a veneer for more decorative, covered with varnish or a laminate , so that its finish is combined with the finish of the canvas and the opening.

The fastening of the folding door is also made of metal. Its lower part is connected to the canvas, the upper one is inserted into the groove of the rail and moves along it when you open or close the door. Previously, this detail was a ball with a rod welded to it, holding the leaf. However, due to constant friction, these two parts quickly failed, the whole mechanism creaked and got stuck. So today, manufacturers use bearings that can provide a smoother and quieter glide.

If the height of the blade is 2 meters or more, the door can be installed additionally also on the lower rail. This contributes to a more reliable fastening of the leaflets and their smaller deviation vertically.
