Fortress Lesendro


On the territory of Montenegro there are many historical monuments that attract the attention of travelers from all over Europe. The number of such attractions is growing every year. It is located on the coast of Lake Skadar , which belongs to the section of the route Bar-Belgrade, near the town of Vranina in the Bar Municipality.

Historical events

Fort Lesendro, erected in the XVIII century, still reminds local residents and tourists about the confrontation between Montenegro and Turkey. The fortress served as the protection of the Montenegrin lands from the attacks of the Turks during the reign of Peter II Petrovich Negosh. The area of ​​this defensive structure occupies 3150 square meters. It is known that Peter II himself often visited here, and in the walls of the fortress some of his remarkable literary works were born.

In the monasteries of Montenegro, the fortress of Lesendro was before 1843. Once the Turks took advantage of the absence of a regular garrison, which was engaged in other military operations, seized the fort and the adjacent village. From the Turkish military, the island was only released in 1878, at the same time the Berlin Congress decided to return its independent Montenegro. After that the fortress of Lesendro was used as a military arsenal.

The fastest route passes through the route E65 / E80. Tourists will be able to get acquainted with Montenegrin architecture and natural features of the country, having gone on a pedestrian journey. From Podgorica to Fort Lesendro you can walk on foot in about 4 hours.
