Near the building of the American Embassy in Podgorica is a modest but interesting Gallery of Modern Art. And since there are not too many entertainments in the city, it is absolutely necessary to visit it, at least in order to form an opinion on this direction in the art of Montenegro .
What are the exhibits in the museum?
If you do not know where the Gallery of Contemporary Art is located, you probably already heard about the Petrovich's house. This is a modest building of pink color, standing in a beautiful park area, which contains the desired exposure. Local residents call this building a palace, since similar buildings were erected earlier for persons close to the nobility. At the moment the building belongs to the monuments of architecture.
Basically, in the Gallery of Modern Art they demonstrate sculpture and art works of the inhabitants of the Balkan Peninsula or the former Yugoslavia. There are both permanent and temporary expositions showing how the art developed from ancient times to the present day. The exhibition consists of 1500 works of art.
All the exhibits were donated to the museum. Among the donors are the government of the state, high-ranking officials and ordinary citizens. In the gallery you can also see collections of paintings, graphics, installations, sculptures of the peoples of the world, brought to their distant countries - Africa, Latin America, Europe - from a total of 60 countries.
Since this palace memorial complex includes several buildings, they sometimes open their doors to visitors. For example, in the house of the palace guard there are exhibitions and fairs and rental of movies. And in the chapel, as it is surprising, shows performances and concerts.
How to get to the Gallery of Modern Art?
To visit the exposition, you should get to Krushevac Park (Petrovicha), in the center of which is the Petrovich Palace. It is not difficult to do this by calling a taxi or renting a car.
