Characteristics of the Himalayan cat speaks for itself. These pets are expensive, but the people who bought them fall in love with fluffy handsome men. They simply can not be overlooked. They fascinate the blue eyes.

History of the breed

For the first time, Himalayan cats were bred in the United States in the 50s of the last century. To obtain this breed, Siamese and Persian cats were crossed. And then they chose kittens with a pronounced Siamese color. As a result of the long painstaking work, a breed with the gene of Siamese cats was obtained.

Irrespective of these experiments in the UK, long-haired color-points were taken out, with which Himalayan cats are sometimes confused. These breeds and, truth, are similar. The only difference is that the color-points have a more pointed muzzle. But it is worth noting that the difference between Persian color-points and Persian Himalayan cats in color is almost none.

Until the 60s, the Himalayan breed was not recognized as a separate breed. These cats were referred to as Persian. In 1984, the Persians and the Himalayas were united in one class. At the same time, Himalayan cats were singled out separately as a special color group. In Russia, cats were only in the 80's. So far this is a rare and expensive breed.

Physical characteristics of the breed

The Himalayan cat is a large, massive, stocky animal with long hair. The average weight of these cats is 4-6 kilograms, but sometimes the weight of an adult male reaches 7-8 kilograms. Himalayans live 12-14 years.

The Himalayan breed of cats has a similarity to the Persian breed. They have the same stocky body and fluffy tail. However, the Himalayans have short legs and therefore they can not jump so high like other cats. Their head is large, massive. The muzzle is of two kinds: flattened, as if puppet and extreme. Eyes - large, round, blue. Ears in this breed are small, with rounded tips. Sometimes in the ears can be bundles of wool. The tail is medium, very fluffy.

The color of the Himalayan cat can be different. There are cats of red, lilac, cream, chocolate color. For example, it looks very beautiful Himalayan blue cat. They have a blue hue of wool.

If the cat's body is creamy or white, the spots will be blue, purple, chocolate, red, brown. Lilac and chocolate color are the rarest. This is explained by the fact that the gene that is responsible for this color is recessive. This means that this gene should be in the genome of both parents, then the desired color will turn out.

Since recently, special interest began to cause cats with a tiger pattern on specks. This color is rare and therefore these cats are worth a decent amount of money.

The nature of Himalayan cats

The Himalayan cat character is characterized by softness and poise. They perfectly get along in the house. From Siamese cats they are distinguished by a more emotional and obedient temper. And they create less noise.

Himalayans are obedient and energetic cats. They are intelligent, sociable, affectionate, playful. They love the company of the owners, so they want to be everywhere with people. Himalayan cat will be an excellent companion for games for the child.

Care of cats

For the Himalayan cats, care requires some effort. Their hair needs to be combed every day. Otherwise, it will become entangled, and lumps are formed, which then must be cut. And this significantly spoils the appearance of the cat.

Some cats may have shiny hair due to the fact that the glands produce a lot of fatty grease. Unpleasant odor and fat from the wool can be washed off.
